Bitcoin Gold (BTG) was created as the result of a bitcoin hard fork in October 2017. The purpose of Bitcoin Gold is to eliminate the need for specialized mining rigs called ASICS.
Instead Bitcoin Gold can be mined on ordinary CPUs. This has the benefit of democratizing and decentralizing BTG by avoiding a confluence of power within a handful of specialised mining groups.
